Recently I had the pleasure to return to my home away from home, Oahu. It was SO NICE to be back I never wanted to leave. Hawaii is my absolute happy place where I can do everything that I love. I spent my days on the North Shore diving for shells, surfing, hanging out with friends, eating my favorite foods and watching the sunset. There is no better place to relax and unwind than the beach, and I'm so happy I got to spend a week back on my old stomping grounds.
Since each one of us have lived on Oahu at some point over the years, we often get asked a lot of questions regarding trips to the island. We are happy to help in any way that we can and love to spread the good word. We have found the best luck flying with Allegiant and Alaska/Horizon with deals as low as $300 round trip. Hawaiian Air has great prices from time to time as well, depending on where you choose to fly out from. And don't forget to fly with Mokulele Airlines for a short jumper flight to island hop, even if just for the day. So worth the adventure.

what are your 4th of july traditions? last year lisa and i spent ours watching fireworks explode over the water while we sat on our surfboards. it was insane. such a rush being out in the dark water with the dark sky, waiting for fireworks to crack and fill the sky with flashes of light and sparkly explosions. makes my heart tingle. wishing you a most magical 4th of july this summer.

JULY IS HERE
Aloha Friday. It's a way of life on the islands. It's as real as it sounds, full of all good things. People are happier on Fridays. Everyone takes that extra 15 minutes for their lunch breaks. Heck, places close earlier and your boss will leave work at two with not an ounce of guilt. So kick back, relax, eat some yummy food, and remember the weekend has arrived. Wherever you may be, let the good vibes roll. Wishing you a happy and very ALOHA filled Friday my friends.

Activity: Eddie Aikau Opening Ceremonies // Location: Waimea Bay, North Shore of Oahu
Have you ever heard the story of Eddie Aikau? If you haven't, I highly encourage you to educate yourself. Especially if you are a surfer. This man was an amazing waterman, lifeguard, and big wave surfer. When he was 31 he went on a Hawaiian voyage via an ancient canoe, and the canoe got a leak. In effort to find help for his crew, Eddie paddled out on his surf board towards the island of Lanai. Later, the people on the canoe were found and saved, while Eddie was lost at sea. He died trying to help others, just as he always did. His legacy lives on through the Hawaiian people and locals who share his story or knew him personally. I read a book about his life when I was in a surf class at BYU-Hawaii, Eddie Would Go. Definitely a good read I encourage you to check out. Your view and understanding on surfing will grow far deeper than just a fun activity.
The Eddie Opening Ceremonies takes place every December at Waimea Bay. It is a celebration of Eddie's life and big wave surf legends. If you want to learn more, please check out this website HERE. Between December 1st and February 28th they will hold the waiting period for a contest that will only be run if the waves top 40 foot faces. HUGE I tell you, it's absolutely amazing. The last one was held in 2009. So who knows, maybe 2014 will bring in the big guys!
