Destination: Hollywood sign / Location: Los Angeles / Distance: 6.2 miles round trip / Time: 3 hrs
If you really want to get your day's worth, kick off the morning with a sunrise hike to the Hollywood sign. Nobody likes their alarm clock going off when it's still dark outside, but you'll never regret the adventure it inevitably brings; there's something magical about hiking in the dark by the light of your headlamp, crawling over rocks and along narrow trails only to summit just in time for the valley to light up from the sun. The city sleeps below and slowly wakes up, and you can see the Griffith Observatory, downtown, Hollywood reservoir, and all of Los Angeles in every direction. I even spotted my neighborhood from up top. Along the trail you'll find the Wisdom Tree, which is a nice place to sit and think and soak up nature. The hike doesn't take long, and you can make it back to the valley for brunch!

It was the weekend and I managed to squeeze my pregnant belly into waders to go fishing right here on the Boise River. Something I love about living in Boise is how the river weaves through the center of downtown. In a matter of minutes you can go from work shoes to wading boots and fish during your lunch break.
The Boise River is a 102 mile long tributary of the Snake River in the northwest. The River rises into three different forks; the North Fork, Middle Fork, and South Fork. Eventually it ends into the Snake River at the Idaho-Oregon border.
The Boise River is mostly used for fishing rainbow trout and steelhead in the winter. We always have a good time fishing local waters and exploring the beauty that surrounds our home. It's not all about the fishing, but getting outside and enjoying nature.

Nothing helps me relax more when getting home from work then putting on a swimmy and heading to the beach! Even though these winter months have given me but moments of sunlight once I arrive, the sunsets never cease to amaze me. Some nights they are purple, others they are pink, but mostly they're orange and red with a beautiful glow. If you're lucky you may even see the green flash :). I love you California and all your beautiful sunshine! What helps you unwind?

It's funny how sometimes we as humans tend to get caught up in having to do something drastic to have a little fun. Because lets face the facts, it's not always easy to book a ticket and leave for a month. Although we don't let life get in the way as an excuse, we do constantly seek to find adventure right outside our front door.
This past weekend my husband and I decided to take a little cruise of San Diego Harbor just for fun. It was primarily exploring the military and naval base which was very interesting to learn about, but we also got to see some of San Diego's most well known landmarks besides the naval base, including Hotel Del Coronado, Point Loma, a few hidden away resorts and the Coronado Bridge. We enjoyed the two hour boat ride and relaxed in the sun, breathing in the salty air!
The great thing about Flagship cruises is that afterwards you're in the heart of downtown! Chase and I enjoyed a delicious salmon sandwich right there at a cute cafe on the bay. It was beautiful watching the sunset and enjoying the change of scenery. And let's not forget, it's about a 10-15 minute walk from Little Italy. SCORE!

Spencer took these lovely photos on our recent winter hike up the ice house trail on Mt. Baldy (so talented, you are babe!). There's a string of cabins all alongside the trail, with beautiful frozen rivers running in the canyon below and great terrain for training and bringing along the puppies. We went with some friends and had a great time despite the severe wind and really cold temperatures! It's about a 45 min. drive from LA, and super ideal for a day trip getaway from the city.
